xD Hey everyone, just coming in to say that I recently (a couple minutes ago) found out that both Narcissu and Narcissu -Second Side- are fully released, translated, and officially free =D. Apparently it has been that way for a short while now, but in any case, I am feeling quite psyched about it (haven't read it yet).

Anyways, I'm attempting to persuade anyone who would actually be dedicated to porting it over (not like me and my laziness...), because I'm definitely sure it is going to be an amazing visual novel.

76 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-08-23 09:11 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

The first Narcissu is also included in the Narcissu2 port (it was in the PC version as well), so you can just download the Narcissu2 port and use that.

You can get the latest one together by downloading from >>65 and >>73...and you can get the icon and thumbnail from >>68.

Can somebody upload them to a different site? mediafire doesn't seem to work for me. :(

What works for you? I don't own an account anywhere, so it'd have to be a place that allows either anonymous or free-account uploading.

Rapidshare or Megaupload works for me. Thanks in advance. ^^

Megaupload Mirrors for Narcissu 2:

--Base (required to play, no sound):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MB3EBR3I

--Sound "No Voices" (sound.zip with everything but voices, not required):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TQL5HF1P

--Sound "With Voices" (sound.zip with everything, not required):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KJBS8D1H

This is slightly superior to the Mediafire links, as the updated scripts and nicer icon/thumbnail are already included in the Base download (I hope, I think they're the newest stuff).

I've only just come across these forum postings, and I want to say thank you for the hard work so far. A DS or VNDS version of Nocturnal Illusion or Renewal would be simply awesome!

112 Name: Anonymous : 2010-08-29 22:52 ID:NH348+Av [Del]

Oh, well if you want to hear it: Nocturnal Illusion is a great game (I always wondered why they switched the words of the title around when it was originally supposed to be released as "Illusionary Nocturne" , I bet they thought that no American fan of animeporn knows what a nocturne is, but the word can still be seen on the screen frame ("Nocturne from Darkside" or something) nevertheless) and would fit in perfectly between the long commercial Doujin works like FSN and Tsukihime and short freeware novels like Narcissu and EveningButterfly currently available. Just remember that the VNDS community as a whole is not that large, and that many people left the boards because of the recent spammings and general lack of news (VNDS development halted, Ever17 dropped etc).

So, wow great thanks!!! I bet more people would show up posting again if they had a new game to play and talk about. If you think it was too much work, consider uploading the converted pictures and sounds and extracted scripts so that others can help you finish it. Thank you once again.

I'm sorta interested in Nocturnal Illusion, it having been one of my first VNs (since I was still on dial-up and it was small, still have no idea how I found it...). So at least I would be looking forward to it.

Plus, I'm almost always on the IRC channel and you can see that I can help in at least some fashion assuming I'm not too busy (like I would quite often be with college now...).

115 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-08-30 01:43 ID:Gqbzfbga [Del]

Same goes for me as it does for ShinseiTom...at least the "Plus, I'm almost always on the IRC channel and you can see that I can help in at least some fashion assuming I'm not too busy (like I would quite often be with college now...)" part....The first half doesn't apply to me (my first VN was...as if I would remember that sort of thing anyways).

116 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-30 12:38 ID:4Trpw5Kq [Del]

I have no idea what my actual first one was. At the time, I didn't even know what they were other than fancy choose-your-own-adventure game. With... other stuff >_>.
That would of been around the same time I found manga and anime. I do remember my first manga.

There's a lot of "Engrish" in the English version of the game, but it wouldn't be too hard to correct. I wouldn't mind fixing it myself, if I had a copy of the entire script without playing through the game again to jot down every line.

>>119
Have you tried that old tool used to reinsert and fix the censored scenes? As far as I recall it had a feature for extracting the script. I don't think Gradow "jotted down every line", so he probably used it too.

Fate/Stay Night uncensored (27)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2009-10-22 18:28 ID:ZrsaU0FQ [Del]

I couldn't stand to look at the pixel censorship, so I found the normal uncensored images and resized and renamed them so that all you have to do it drag them into the background folder and replace the old pictures.

I've only gotten to one scene in the game yet, but it worked fine. I'd like to see if other people can get it to work as well.

Nasu is a great writer whether there's hentai in his stories or not. Also, that so little of the story is pornographic in nature - and that it still functions perfectly fine without the sex scenes there - should make the label of "porn game" kind of inappropriate.
>>14

There's going to be a remake of the original Visual Novel, yes. We may actually get sex scenes that don't reference vomiting!

19 Name: Anonymoose : 2009-11-05 22:02 ID:1go8x9dx [Del]

Apparently we'll see what happens when TM doesn't restrict themselves to the eroge genre.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahōtsukai_no_Yoru

Though I do think squandered is too harsh a word, as this company started out making doujinsoft they kind of chose to do exactly what they were doing. I'd start yapping about my opinion on the term 'porn game' but I haven't been active here long enough to get away with rant posts I think. Which it would no doubt become.

20 Name: Rai : 2009-11-06 13:07 ID:uiZjgfQC [Del]

You could say the same for Kara No Kyoukai, if they made a visual novel version of that, which I doubt since the movies came out.
I'm trying to resist rant posts too...

21 Name: Hogan : 2009-11-06 23:36 ID:N2qtbs/M [Del]

>18,19,20

haha, although this sound like I'm being troll-ish, I actually really want to here everyone's thoughts, no matter how rant-ish!
a heated discussion is always the best way to get someone's real thoughts on an issue.

And while IRL I also profusely defend visual novels as more then just 'porn games' (just look at narcissu, or any of the 100+ other novels that deal with more then just sex or eroge), my protection doesn't extend to games that actually have sex in them. I'd defend Clannad to the death (kinda, not Key's best), but I can only half heartedly defend FS/N (as much as I loved that game) because it started life as a game for people to 'enjoy themselves' to, wheather the 18+ was a stupid tacked-on part of it or not.

22 Name: Anonymoose : 2009-11-07 02:04 ID:1go8x9dx [Del]

Well for the most part I agree with that. Maybe though I'm a little more defensive of things like FSN because storyline is the most important thing to me. I'll look past quite a bit for the sake of a good story. Which isn't so much the mindset of the rest of my continent of residence. Which is probably why it's so hard to get someone to sit down with Planetarian for five minutes when I finished it in one sitting. >.<; Though it's not like I'm denying ever playing something because it's an ero/galge. I've played quite a few I will never recommend to anyone... or only to people I dislike.

I swear I've revised this about six times >.>

23 Name: Anonymous : 2009-11-08 17:21 ID:2KmQFYeC [Del]

>>21
The sex scenes are few in FSN and Tsukihime, they consist of very few pictures and these are badly drawn in comparison to professional works. I don't think many played it for masturbation purposes when the overall selection of eroge offers tons of more specialized titles.

Personally I draw the line between games with H-content and said 'porn games' by asking myself whether the title in question could or could not be converted into an 'all-ages' anime TV series (since many of the most famous visual novels already got this kind of treatment in reality).

24 Name: Hogan : 2009-11-09 04:23 ID:N2qtbs/M [Del]

>>23

hm, while a term as arbitrary as 'porn game' is really up to each person, you cannot overlook the fact that H scenes were added, on purpose, and most likely to boost the game's sales/exposure.

A hypothetical question(that I guess cannot really be answered):
Do you think Tsukihime would have gained the sales/exposure that lead it to become an anime (and a remake on the way, so I've heard?), or to become one of the more widely-known VNs this side of the translating process, If it was originally not a H-game?
A deep story and character development are hard qualities to market, especially in an industry inundated with 100s of new Visual Novels at any one time. But there's always a market for porn...

Oh, and I also didn't use FS/N as the example on purpose: that's one I believe would have gained popularity, as it can/did market its 'action' side

25 Name: Rai : 2009-11-09 12:02 ID:uiZjgfQC [Del]

>>24
That's what I'm trying to say.
The very first person who bought Tsukihime probably wasn't counting on an epic story.
I'm sure Type-Moon (Even before they became Type-Moon) would have gained more popularity in the beginning had Mahōtsukai no Yoru and Kara No Kyoukai started as visual novels with some sort of erotic notion. (Choosing those two specifically because they're on the same timeline as Tsukihime)

Still, what I don't get is why stick h-scenes anyways in Fate/Stay Night, even when they were popular with just Tsukihime. Seems like the "all-ages" version was stuck in as an afterthought.

I was playing this game once again and tried to extract the contents of it, but I can't seem to do it. I was planning on porting it to VNDS, so I was wandering if anyone was able to extract it or knew how to...

2 Name: Anonymous : 2010-01-20 08:43 ID:T55/25do [Del]

Are you the same one who posted here a few months ago?
If not, the two of you should get together.

I highly appreciate the idea of porting Nocturnal Illusion.NI is a very good and classic eroge. It's 'almost-an-adventure-game'-system would also set new standards about what is possible in VNDS.

There even was a discussion about whether to use the graphics from the PC-98, MSDOS, or Windows 98 version, about gradiant shading and stuff like that. Even the American fan novel got mentioned. I can't find that thread though, but here is one that at least shows that somebody was working on it at one time:

http://digital-haze.net/ch/vnds/kareha.pl/1239589984/l50

This post (17) is especially interesting:

>Also... The by the script files you refer to the .bts files right?
>I have a lot of free time this week so if you wish I can extract/decode them to you.

A port of NI to the DS would be AWESOME, especially if you could have two graphics modes, one of the DOS/WIN version, the other of the Renewal version.

10 Name: Anonymous : 2010-09-04 08:09 ID:Sgye5b8s [Del]

You can play the WIN version on computer, even under Wine. The Renewal graphics are important because they will make people play the game again.

Picking this one up as well. It should be a lot easier than Kanon. The thing I'm worried about most with this one is screen effects. It's going to require some testing but I think I might release a full episode 1 for people to test after I get up to a certain point. Let's say the first twilight since that should be enough to test a bit of the commands. Otherwise it'd take a while for me to release something major since I'm a pretty slow reader.

This small demo is the opening of episode 1 and goes up until where the OP movie plays. I am not affiliated with Witch Hunt in any way but I will deal with misc errors like typos if people report them here. I know the script is littered with them so you'll not only be helping out the DS port by reporting errors but also the PC translation.

But that shouldn't be a problem.

ok, one odd question to Taokaka: Have a look at resolution of the background images.

i.e they all should be 256 x 192. if they are not they may cause the error you are having...maybe...

those are just what i think they should have been, but knowing my not-even-at-beginning level skills, they could be far from what it SHOULD be
i 'think' i've changed the 'risa-problem' to what it SHOULD be
while the extra scenario thing is just a workaround(since i assume extra scenario has to be unlock by clearing main route once, the script that i've posted unlocks them with no requirement...and doesn't actually use the OPEN.scr

have fun with it, now that u have sharin to work on also LOL

my game keeps crashing when sivilianna had stuff injected

and i used poster 101's script, and everything else that was instructed in post 98

103 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-27 20:07 ID:XHAdvrqf [Del]

Well... what is the crash? Restarting the game, throwing an error, shutting down the ds?

104 Name: Anonymous : 2010-08-27 21:43 ID:EVH0v5fj [Del]

hmm...i just checked the script files on my DS and the silvie error that was mentioned didnt occurred to me...state the details and maybe we can help

btw...the 'Recollection' choice from 007.scr doesn't seems to 'restart' if the game was cleared before...(or at least that's what i think)is it actually suppose to do that?

also...i've been able to find the cause to the 'no voice' problem that i mentioned ages ago...it is because the 'script code' to the sound file are NOT in capital, where the sound file themselves are all CAPITALIZED!
i assume that the problem occurs in 015N, 015R, 015X, 016N, 016R, and H scenes as well(i actually thought the game didn't have voices for H scenes before) ... and by either changing the sound file name OR script code SHOULD fix the problem
which i m too lazy to do them right now...since i only know how to 'manually' edit them by using notepad, and there are TONS of them ^^;

annnnyways, if i ever feel bored and decided to edit them, i'll post an updated version of the script.rar afterward...
p.s. now that i think about it...i still havn't got ShinseiTom's permission to edit anything since this is his port-project...well, hope you don't mind =P and in case you actually do, just post a message up and i'll stop immediately~

105 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-08-27 23:57 ID:4ldfAACN [Del]

Well he doesn't exactly care too much about you fixing up the port...Provided you don't screw something up somewhere else while fixing, none of the porters that I know would actually care...since none of us actually do very much.

106 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-28 00:00 ID:XHAdvrqf [Del]

I don't care. It's a port. The only thing even remotely my own creation is the program that half-did the work for me, and the modified title screen (now THAT was hell to me).

If you make it better, post it. I know this one isn't really near done, but I figured it at least allowed you to get to the end of both main routes. I guess even that wasn't true until somebody else noticed...

Anyway, yeah, fix it to your heart's content. What with school starting up and having less time, this project has much lower priority than anything else right now.

107 Name: Anonymous : 2010-08-28 01:24 ID:EVH0v5fj [Del]

tbh, i finished this ported version soon after you posted your original version...so it doesn't really hold a high priority on me either, but as i was saying...i'll update it when i have edited something if i m ever bored

the way THIS looks to me now is that both ends are obtainable as you mentioned, some code(on voice) need edit, and the 'extra scenario' option needs to be properly implement

the 'voice' fixing part i can do...since i can at least understand that little; on the other hand the 'extra scenario' i have no idea whats going on(i guess thats another title screen hell waiting for u). So if theres another update from me...it'll probably be a voice-fix

108 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-28 14:21 ID:XHAdvrqf [Del]

Oh yeah, and that damn-awful if-fi block-o-doom I had to do by hand.
That sucked mightily.

Anyway, do whatever you want.

http://www.mediafire.com/?a7xqh1ws1y54u57

well...since i WAS ACTUALLY bored and something good happened to me...here's the voice-fixed-script file
it SHOULD have the voice enabled for 'normal' story H-scenes, scenario that happen in the later story(015N/R/X, 016N/R, and RIS/NAD .scr), ANNND the extra scenario also
if the voice are still 'muted' in those part of the story...you might need to clear the cache for vnds to 'reload' them again...(not quite sure about this...since it didn't work for me on my first try, so i ended up clearing the cache). speaking of which...i thought there was an option in vnds itself to reload everything?

as usual, have fun

Poll: Which novel would you like to see ported the most? (130)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-16 19:27 ID:A6K85QyF [Del]

I'm just curios,
so let me know which novel would you like to see ported the most.

My choice is "Phantom of Inferno", because I haven't played it yet and the DVD port must have been an awful mess.

Other than that: ITT propose a novel for me to port :)

(And no, phantom is out...)

Yeah, AnimeED extract all the resources pretty easily (was using it when attempting to translate ever17 psp), but again no luck on scripts.
and Sharin looks interesting, if not a bit generic.

Gonna see about that ren'py script extractions, as there's a few small games that are mildly interesting. Maybe find one as good as TBEE haha

If you feel like doing it, then feel free to do it xD. If you need help, I'm always happy to help (even if it takes some obscure or lame method to do so).

hm, out of curiosity, anyone heard of a script to extract text from ren'py '.rpyc' files?

I think they're "encoded" just using a form of zlib, so if no-one has anything I might see what I can do...

129 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-08-26 01:00 ID:5uKsXscd [Del]

I'm the only one that actually spent time looking for such a thing, but never found anything. Renpy's source code is available (I think) so you could just look at that (me being the illiterate fool in coding, I felt little use even attempting to look).

130 Name: Hogan : 2010-08-26 03:10 ID:oJICUtbe [Del]

haha, I've been looking around as well, but no luck.
Been looking at the source code over the last week (that how I worked out it was using zlib), so maybe I can work something out. No promises, as I'll be learning python on the fly ^^

Error: [graphics] libpng_err: Too many IDAT's found (45)

1 Name: Utumo : 2010-05-02 10:31 ID:OLJ/fHhE [Del]

So I'm trying to get Kira Kira in working order before I storm through all the script files, but whenever I use the setimg command, I get the error "[graphics] libpng_err: Too many IDAT's found"

The sprite loads just fine, but it will still put the error in the text, which... doesn't really look nice.

Any help?

The script doesn't look too terrible, but I'd really like to look at the full thing. Do you think you could zip them up so I could trawl through them? I could probably come up with a program to quickly port most of it minus a little manual work.

As far as everything else, it looks like it's all pretty easy to work with, unlike Wanko.

And yeah, I've been trying to get some kind of movie-like thing working, but a slideshow is as good as it'll get.

Possible VN titles for future porting. (47)

1 Name: game player s : 2010-02-23 21:32 ID:RGd3PSZP [Del]

There's a great number of VN's I'm curious as to the possibility of seeing ported over with VNDS in the future. I know nothing of programming so if some of these titles aren't possible then my apologies for suggesting them.

Bittersweet Fools - Minori
Another adult only title, but what's interesting about this one is that Minori released a conversion tool on the games' official site that allows you to convert your installed copy of the game into a ported version for the more recent color Palm PC's. Story and artwork for this game were done by the same guy responsible for Gunslinger Girl, which is an awesome anime series.

Chu! - Saga Planets
Interesting looking title, but I've never seen a screen shot of actual gameplay, so unsure if it would be possible to port.

Wind: A Breath of Heart - Minori
Another great looking Minori title.

My dream port would be Kagetsu Tohya; I've been wanting to replay it for a while now, because I really loved most of it (the loli I could have done without), but the laptop I had it on before has long since packed up, and I only really have time to read when traveling or in bed (which makes VNDS easily my favourite program for my R4) so reading it on my main computer is not going to happen. This said, we all know no-one with the know-how cares enough for the commitment this would take, so this is never getting done.

However, if Gore Screaming Show ever gets translated, a port would be very much appreciated.

VNDS Script Checker (11)

1 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-06 05:00 ID:IPzUJSKx [Del]

Because I can't leave well enough alone, here's another crappy program to possibly make life a little easier on VNDS scripters.

Introducing the alpha of VNDS Script Checker:
http://www.mediafire.com/?tdw33snilwh9pq6

All the details are in the README included. I would, you know, read it. For those who inevitably won't, the gist is to stick it in the "script" folder, run it, then check results.txt.
Errors and resets (setvar ~ ~) show up in the command prompt, everything that worked went in the txt file.

I plan to add most everything else within a week as VNDS scripts are so easy to parse (thank you jake).

2 Name: Anonymous : 2010-08-06 05:57 ID:+HYdOLOM [Del]

since it is so easy why do you need something to check if it works?

3 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-06 11:30 ID:IPzUJSKx [Del]

For large porting projects...? That have multi tens-of-thousands of lines of script or more? That kind of thing is hell to debug if you accidentally misspelled or screwed one line up.
And it's easier to run this then try hunting down the mistake by hand (or just missing the mistake outright).

4 Name: Anonymous : 2010-08-06 14:17 ID:+HYdOLOM [Del]

but that implies people are actually still porting large scale things.

which is totally not true.

5 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-07 07:40 ID:onUAP+yI [Del]

Are too. Just because you refuse to see them doesn't mean people aren't still trying. So negative!

Anyway, bantering aside, here's the mostly finished beta version:
http://www.mediafire.com/?fjc4i9upj9i7k4e

This completely checks every script file and outputs the result to "output.txt". I've tested it using my Narcissu 2 scripts (of which it found lots of little hidden problems I missed), so it should work all fine. If a problem is found in the program, post it here.

6 Name: Anonymous : 2010-08-07 16:01 ID:+HYdOLOM [Del]

its not so much I refuse to see them its that there is nothing to see.

All right, since the old thread was getting rather cluttered up with posts and spam I decided to make a new one, and have the newest version on the first post. Maximum kudos go out to Sokudo, who pretty much single-handedly ported the two new routes available in this version. Sadly, Tomoyo's route still goes unvoiced. I just wanted to get this out there before I skip off to Japan in July.

Base files: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K58VQMTT
Music: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IC99JQOH
Voice & SFX: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XU1NC4HR

For those unfamiliar to VNDS (which shouldn't happen if you're on this board, but it's a possible scenario), here are instructions.
1) Use 7zip, WinRAR, or an equivalent program to extract CLANNAD.rar into your novels folder. Don't touch the .zip files inside.
2) Extract the music RAR in a similar fashion, except to the inside of the newly-created CLANNAD folder.
3) Save sound.zip directly to the CLANNAD folder.

Eight reasons that have lead me to believe you shouldn't post ever again.

  1. That has nothing to do with CLANNAD.
  2. This isn't 4chan.
  3. The only one who replies to spam is me because I'm just about the only person that checks this place on a regular basis.
  4. Those aren't even decent pictures.
  5. THE WHOLE FORUM IS ALMOST FU*KING DEAD!
  6. That doesn't motivate Boinciel in the slightest.
  7. Uselessly bumping a thread that nobody has cared about for over a month.
  8. At max, there are maybe 3 people that will ever see that; the poster, the moderator, and me.

Hey, I'm still here everyday!

But seriously, While i agree with you, there's really not too much we can do. very few people use VNDS nowadays, although it was a great ride while it lasted, especially for us, the people who helped port over all those games. Maybe once 3DS homebrew kicks off in about 8-14 months, We'll look at doing it all again. I know I'll have to know-how and intrest by then

19 Name: Rika Chama : 2010-07-28 06:38 ID:nQw1Tfss [Del]

I may not be a contributor, but I also check here daily, just to see if there are any new developments, ect. :s And I thought after the anti-bot verification code thing was added to this forum, our spam problem would have been gone...I guess there are still idiots who want to ruin that idea..

20 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-07-28 18:03 ID:4qL0tHfF [Del]

I'm not so sure that Jake will actually make a VN3DS xD...He is fairly indisposed to working on VNDS as it is. If anything, I'm sure Wanko might end up ported...xD if motivation is high.

Its nice to know that there are actually some people who check (despite being almost nothing to check...the IRC has slightly more life...when I'm there xD). As for the spam problem, its definitely not as bad as before, plus I ate the fruit of power and gained the banhammer for the wiki (so there is a LOT less spam there xD).

I'm actually thinking of putting the Wanko to Kurasou script on the wiki and letting people edit it and hopefully lighten up the load of monotonous work xD (of course I would need to put up all of the images and whatnot as well as an example script...though maybe I'll just use the mockup Wanko port as the example).

21 Name: toanzz : 2010-08-04 00:21 ID:IZgsK6sc [Del]

well i check here when ever i can remember the url. Anyways 3DS would first have to have flashcarts for it made before anything else. Btw what happened to that dude who was working on that vn called Planetarian?

22 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-08-04 02:47 ID:fBAMTBr1 [Del]

xD Why even have to remember the url? I just search "VNDS" in google and use the first link to get here. Supposing there is still DS mode, it wouldn't be any harder using a flashcart with a DSi, though it wouldn't be VN3DS xD.

As for the dude that was working on Planetarian...xD that was me. I've just been really lazy at working on it (maybe I'll start back on it when ShinseiTom and I have the Wanko issue all sorted out).

23 Name: toanzz : 2010-08-04 23:24 ID:IZgsK6sc [Del]

why don't we just put the script up on wiki and have a giant collaboration project? Also I believe that the dsi mode (the dsi special features for some games) hasn't been cracked yet.

24 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-08-05 23:05 ID:TnGlm9qv [Del]

lol I doubt putting Planetarian on the wiki would really help for anything. The last time I remember, Hogan completely changed all of the image file names when he used them xD, whereas I being my lazy self just left them as is. It would work better if all of the extracted files were hosted up, but meh...since they need to be resized and I haven't exactly made the animated screens yet...for the most part, I just don't want to put it up because it would be a pain since the releases that I have put out up until now are pretty much final product releases that have been checked and are working perfectly (from what I remember). Also, I doubt anyone would take the time to go through Planetarian at a snail's pace and repeat parts to get every single ribbon color change displayed in the right order (I set up the sprites the same way the game does, so there are body parts rather than full sprites...and they always need to be in the right order to be displayed correctly...and I always check them to make sure they are in the right order and are displayed correctly). The sheer monotony of porting would keep most people away anyways, which is why even though I have all 2300+ voices that ALL need to be fixed (the end of every single one of them needs to be silenced...because there is some random echo at the end), I don't upload it for others to fix because chances are that nobody would actually even attempt something like that (though I plan to eventually). If I really feel like it will make me commit suicide to continue, then I'll probably host up the voices in chunks so that they can be done at anyone's leisure (maybe just 5-10 a day over a span of...230+ days).

In any case, its always worth a shot trying for a collaboration project (though something less demanding of the public would be a better test candidate), which is why I suggested it for Wanko to Kurasou (which is a smaller download anyways and with less files to worry about thankfully).

clovn - Command Line Only Visual Novel interpreter (6)

Hi, here's something I wrote a while back when I was bored at work :)

http://nauris.lukimo.fi/clovn

OK, so it's a console interpreter for VNDS scripts, dunno if there's any interest it :)

It does not support all commands but I don't remember what those were. However all (non-sound/graphics) commands in Tsukihime and Fate/Stay night should be supported.

Requires bash, tr, cut, grep, sed, etc. and uses indirect variables in bash. Textout function is slow and requires groff, I bet that could be done better.

Does not support compressed VN's, writes save games and global variables under home directory in .clovn subdir.

Graphics, sound and music commands are ignored,

um....huh...
I'm not sure I see the point to this. but hey, I'm sure it was a good coding exercise, and kept you from being bored!

so awesome work!

What exactly does this do? Does it act like VNDS on the DS, only doesn't show the images and play the music? Does it check through the script to make sure there aren't any errors, like the "lint" thing in Ren'Py (I'd actually kinda like one of those)?
It sounds neat, but like Hogan said, I don't actually know its use is (assuming it does have one).

5 Name: Hakki : 2010-08-01 13:52 ID:RNiAaydN [Del]

Well, its a VN reader for command line. That means that you can use it to read VNs on Linux machine, possibly remotely, from another side of the net. You could even use old Digital dumb terminal to read VNs :)

No checking at all, it's just a reader.

And yes, it's more like a scripting practice, started when I noticed how simple the VNDS script format is, and rest quickly followed :)

Oh well, I think I'm 10 years late with this, as nowadays no-one uses dumb terminals anymore and you can use NDS to read VNs even without Internet connection :)

I might try to get the script working on some portable devices like N900 .. but now that I think, N900 would benefit far more from graphical reader .. hmm.. I could try writing some python later :)

6 Name: Hogan : 2010-08-02 02:10 ID:1MchX0E6 [Del]

haha, We still use remote terminals to code at Uni, but the main thing I think your missing makes up 1/2 of the acronym 'VN' ^^

Adventure Test (6)

1 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-07-17 17:15 ID:cu3QBGmD [Del]

Since I've been messing with this for a little while now, putting it up here on the board only seemed appropriate. Because I have more free time than I know what to do with, here's a sort of text adventure visual novel.
I got the inspiration from Radical Dreamers, a prototype to Chrono Cross released on the SNES Satellaview exclusively in Japan. In 2003, Demiforce released a rom hack of the game translating it into English. I recommend everyone to read it. Considering using VNDS means having a cart of some type, putting an SNES emulator on it and playing through the game on their DS should be fairly simple.
My game doesn't completely copy Radical Dreamers, it's my own story I've been thinking up on the fly as I go. Right now I don't have random battles like Radical Dreamers, though emulating them wouldn't be hard. Anyway, enough talking, link:

Feedback would be appreciated. Be warned, it ends at a cliffhanger (totally unintentional). I'm trying to write a suspense/horror game, but I'm sorta a novice at it, so don't expect anything to really scare you. Also know that there are MULTIPLE WAYS of doing some things, of which some lead to death.

Hey,

Just downloaded the latest version, I'll so I'll get back to you on feedback. looks good though!

Newest version, release 3
http://www.mediafire.com/?9abbrq91yvr3vya

I have not tested this one AT ALL. No time to do so. I just finished the midgame event a few minutes ago and I'm leaving on no-computer vacation in 20 minutes.
So if it errors out somewhere, sorry, but I won't be able to fix it anytime soon.

Also, this one ends nicely (as long as it doesn't screw up before you get there). Also, don't run it in devmode. I have no idea if that will screw up your saves, as I have it doing some funky stuff.

Release 4
http://www.mediafire.com/?mtmg3zacnpd1a5w

As the 3 people who downloaded release 3 might know, the game was crippled pretty badly script-wise. This release should fixe all that. Now you CAN finish the puzzle lock and get in the final area of the game.

Hope those few who try enjoy.
And pardon the roughness and grammar errors in the finale. I was rushed when I wrote it and haven't had time to go back through it to make it read smoother. However, it should at least WORK. I would recommend saving before opening the Arboretum doors.

6 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-08-01 04:05 ID:fIN38bVN [Del]

You know, all that stuff I wrote up there REALLY makes it sound like this release has the entire game. It's not, it only gets somewhere between a third and a half of the way through the story.
And what the heck, "fixe"? I really need to stop writing when I'm dead tired. I guess being stuck in a vehicle for 20 hours will do that to you.

VNPSP? (33)

First of all I'd like to thank for all the work and effort so far.

Now to a small proposal:
How about making something like VNDS, only for the PSP? All that's currently floating around is an ages old english build of ONScripter and a more recent japanese one, but that's just for NScript-games (although somebody apparently managed to make a very dirty conversion of F/SN to ONS, leaving out all the fight scenes..).

There's not much I can offer in return except for the promise that I'll up the CSO of that PSP Hatsune Miku game once it comes out (and my japanese preorder arrives).

I didn`t even get those.

>>23
After the whole "hey free psp" thing wore out in my mind and I actually tried thinking about how to go about doing everything, I realized that it would have to be text on image. And on something with that small a resolution, it sounds really hard on the eyes.

25 Name: Anonymous : 2009-08-29 04:34 ID:QkOizwYt [Del]

It wouldn't be so bad - take a look at all these ONScripter screenshots from the japanese version of the build.

It looks awesome!

I'd kill for the VNDSx PSP port/version... :(

26 Name: Anonymous : 2009-08-29 04:40 ID:QkOizwYt [Del]

Maybe set-up a donation thingy?

I'd be more than glad to donate for a VNDS PSP version.

27 Name: Anonymous : 2009-08-29 04:42 ID:QkOizwYt [Del]

(420x272 isn't as small as people make it to be).

28 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-07 21:02 ID:eP1rqcYo [Del]

Anyone tried running it on the DS emulator on PSP?

29 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-07 22:24 ID:DVMDePgL [Del]

Would the psp one have faster and more stable image loading and no pause before speech and etc..?

As far as we discussed, VNDS doesn't even work on PC via emulation.

32 Name: Narin : 2010-07-17 08:26 ID:VuDIVWrC [Del]

Are you guys still serious about making a port of VNDS to the PSP if you were to receive one? If so, I may possibly be able to help out in that regard.

actually I eventually ended up with a psp (it is bad at being a psp since it does not seem to charge the battery(its the psp's fault not the battery)).

but due to MAN FUCK THIS VNDS SHIT dont ever expect something to come out.

vnds has taught me to never make a program that I dont really use and is for other people.

Transparent to the people with the tools?
Or transparent to the people who know how to?
Photoshop is not have me Multiple sheets have taught me!

0.o This looks like google translate.
You can't do it with the tools. Render the image using GIMP or Photoshop. Either take a long time and have good quality or just select the stuff you want transparent and delete them (needs alpha layer).

Is anyone working on Tomoyo After? (8)

1 Name: Beeboy : 2010-07-06 11:04 ID:IVBZjDXN [Del]

It sounds like a good game since it's from Clannad. So is anyone working on or has Tomoyo After on vnds?

2 Name: Anonymous : 2010-07-06 11:53 ID:ZdrByBKN [Del]

doubt it.

3 Name: Chass : 2010-07-06 14:07 ID:s57kRPxA [Del]

lol wut, nobody's working on Tomoyo After PERIOD

4 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-07-06 22:03 ID:RnzM3ZVl [Del]

Not entirely true. Some people are working on Tomoyo After, albeit the PC version.
Beeboy, there's little way to make a VNDS version without the original translated. So you'll have to wait for this one. If it ever gets finished.

5 Name: Hogan : 2010-07-07 05:29 ID:nMntmbZv [Del]

It'll take a while for the pc version to be done, so don't hold your breath.
Also, why its also by Key, unlike Clannad Tomoyo After was a H-Game.

6 Name: Beeboy : 2010-07-07 16:30 ID:IVBZjDXN [Del]

Well for Tomoya After, they also made a version for all ages.

7 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-07-07 19:05 ID:wDhJjfwm [Del]

I dunno about Tomoyo After...I have no idea how Tomoyo had more popularity than Kotomi (obviously my favorite character xD).

8 Name: Hogan : 2010-07-11 22:25 ID:nMntmbZv [Del]

haha, sorry, Kotomi was awesome, but Tomoyo had actual personality ^^
And huh, sorry, somehow missed the fact they made an all ages version (and ported to the psp no less)
But the English translation going on atm is for the 18+ version, so If we ever port this to ds it'l most likely be this version

Higurashi Port (30)

So, I've begun porting the translation of the Hidden Demon chapter of Higurashi. I'm doing it all manually, so things will be going slowly. Excuse the large file of the RAR, considering that it's only until just after Keiichi meets Rena on the first day, I just converted all the backgrounds and sounds/musics to get it out of the way.

Also there are a couple of bugs. I noticed if you skip where the train SFX is supposed to end, it'll ignore the stop command and keep playing, for example. Also (I like saying also, it seems), sprites need some work. As in, not have a horrible outline and not be floating off the ground. Oh well.

Just a preference. I'd prefer the PS2 stuff if it covered everything (apparently some stuff is missing) simply because I watched the anime first, and it's closer in style to what I remember the most.
On the flip side, I like the Umineko VN character sprites more than the anime's, as I read the VN before I watched the anime.

Haha, oh well.

Well regardless, its like...if someone remade a Dr. Suess book, and changed all the artwork, its just nto the same in my opinion. (I'm the person's who's post was deleted by the way). And I also saw the anime adaption first..But I guess its simply personal preference

On Insani's site, there's a couple of onscripter decompilers that will dump the script for you. That's what I used originally.

G'day,

See BlackCat's post here
http://digital-haze.net/ch/vnds/kareha.pl/1232303013/21

in essence, you need to compile the source with a setting changed. then it should work fine
